The Rowley Police Department will be conducting a Citizen Police Academy beginning March 4.
Sessions will run once per week for 10 weeks on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Rowley Police Department and other sites. Class size is limited and will be open to Rowley residents who are at least 18 years of age.
The goal of the academy is to provide citizens with a better understanding of the law Enforcement profession and the day-to-day operations of the Rowley Police Department.
The class is taught by members of the Rowley Police Department. Topics will include an introduction to law enforcement, CPR certification, crime scenes, traffic enforcement and investigations.
There will be a welcome introduction from Chief Dumas, a visit to the Essex County House of Corrections and the Newburyport District Court. A graduation ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the academy, on Wednesday, May 6.
“The Citizens Police Academy is a unique opportunity for our residents to witness firsthand the extensive duties and responsibilities that our officers deal with on a daily basis,” Chief Dumas said. “We encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about the law enforcement profession to apply for this academy.”
Applicants are expected to attend all sessions and submit to a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check and driver history as part of the application process.
