ROWLEY — Chief Scott A. Dumas reports that the Rowley Police Department arrested a man yesterday who allegedly broke into a home in town and stole cash and jewelry.
CHRISTOPHER CARREIRO, AGE 36, OF SOMERVILLE is charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,200.
On Aug. 5, Rowley Police responded to a past breaking and entering on Haverhill Street, where residents reported that cash and jewelry had been taken from their home.
Earlier that day, police received a report of a suspicious male on Newburyport Turnpike. A homeowner noticed the man in their backyard, who claimed to be a landscaper scoping out the area for work. The homeowner was able to provide police with a description of the man and his license plate number.
On Aug. 14, Rowley Police were notified that several jewelry items that matched the description of the ones stolen at the Haverhill Street residence had been pawned in Everett by a man, later identified as CARREIRO. CARREIRO is also the registered owner of the vehicle that was seen on Newburyport Turnpike on Aug. 5.
Rowley Police secured an arrest warrant for CARREIRO and a search warrant for his home in Somerville. With the assistance of the Georgetown and Somerville Police Departments, detectives executed the arrest and search warrants at his home.
CARREIRO was placed under arrest without incident and was transported to the Rowley Police Department for booking. He was held on $1,500 cash bail and transported to the Middleton House of Correction pending his arraignment in Newburyport District Court.
“I want to commend the diligence of all the officers involved in this case,” Chief Dumas said. “Communication and cooperation are the key to our success, with this being a solid example. This matter could not have been resolved without the timely reporting from our citizens, allowing us to make connections to otherwise seemingly unrelated events.”
