ROWLEY — Chief Scott A. Dumas announces the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) will conduct an examination of various aspects of the Rowley Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations and facilities next month.
The MPAC Assessment Team is scheduled to begin the on-site assessment beginning Tuesday, May 18.
Verification by the Assessment Team that the Department continues to meet the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process for state accreditation — a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession. The Rowley Police Department has been accredited since 2002.
Achieving Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
“As a department, we pride ourselves on our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of law enforcement and the professionalism of our members,” Chief Dumas said. “Accreditation is an ongoing effort through which we continue to reflect and grow. It is a testament to our commitment to protecting and serving our community.”
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 257 mandatory standards as well as 125 optional standards. In order to achieve accreditation status, the department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 55% of the optional standards.
