On Sunday, May 1, police received a call at 5:15 p.m. for a report of shots fired in the woods behind a shopping plaza located at 225 Newburyport Turnpike. Officers arrived within minutes and began to search the area.
Shortly afterward, a male party came into the Rowley Police Station reporting that he had been shot at in that vicinity. Minutes later, officers on scene were approached by an 18-year-old male who reported that he had been shot once in the leg.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
Chief Dumas would like to recognize the diligence and hard work of Rowley Police Detective Matthew Ziev. Additionally, the Chief would like to thank and commend the interagency cooperation and assistance from the Ipswich, Georgetown, Amesbury, Merrimac, Peabody, Salem and Raymond, New Hampshire Police Departments, along with the Massachusetts State Police, which offered vital assistance during the investigation.
“Without their collective assistance and vigilance we may not have been able to conclude this matter so quickly,” Chief Dumas said. “We are thankful that the suspect turned himself in to police peacefully and that he will be held accountable for his actions.
